Who We Are

AAZK - American Association of Zoo Keepers is a nonprofit volunteer organization (U.S. 501C3) made up of professional zoo keepers and other interested persons dedicated to professional animal care and conservation. Local chapters of AAZK are found throughout the entire nation with approximately 96 chapters in total. AAZK is dedicated to advancing animal care, promoting public awareness, enhancing professional development, and contributing to local and global conservation through fundraising and stewardship.

The Seneca Park Zoo chapter, based in Rochester NY, has been active since 1999 and has donated thousands of dollars to more than a dozen different conservation organizations including Health in Harmony, Bowling for Rhinos, Polar Bear International, Snow Leopard Trust, Gunung Palung Orangutan Project, Southern Africa Foundation for the Conservation of Coastal Birds (SANCCOB), International Animal Rescue, UC Berkeley Hyena Research, Turtle Survival Alliance, and locally the Bergen Swamp Preservation Society.

Our chapter works throughout the year to raise funds in support of our zookeepers. These funds are controlled by and voted on by the zookeepers themselves. Besides our donations to conservation organizations, these funds assist zookeepers with travel to conferences and training seminars and also provide funds that keepers can use for the enrichment of their animals.

If you would like to help support Rochester's dedicated zookeepers there are a number of ways you can get involved. Watch for our annual Art Expo, a sale of artwork made by the animals of the Seneca Park Zoo, held each fall. Bowling for Rhinos is a fun event held annually at one of our local bowling alleys to raise funds used to promote Rhino education and conservation.

If you prefer, you can make a donation right on our donation page.

As always, we thank you for your interest and support.
